Sgt. Chad Mercer
(Jun. 26, 1980 - June 30 2006)

Sgt. Chad Michael Mercer, 25, died Thursday (June 30, 2005) in Baghdad, Iraq while serving with the 48th Brigade of the Georgia Army Guard.
He was a native of and lived most of his life in Waycross. He was a Bradley Fighting Vehicle Commander, Bravo Co., 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment. He graduated from the Georgia Military College in 2000.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Mack Mercer.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Mercer of Waycross; two daughters, Alanna Taft and Amber Taft both of Waycross; a son, Gavin Mercer of Waycross; his parents, Mack and Dorothy Mercer of Jamestown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dudley and Carol Cole of Waycross; a brother, Adam Mercer of Scott Air Force Base, IL, a sister, Lara Mercer of Waycross; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Cole of Waycross; maternal grandparents, Mike and Shirley Junk of Jacksonville Beach, FL; two paternal grandmothers, Jean Jones of Macclenny, FL, Delores Mercer of Lexington, MD; and several aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday (July 11, 2005) at Jamestown Baptist Church. Burial will be in Kettle Creek Cemetery.

Sgt. Gene Lavelle Lamie
(June 3, 1982 - July 6, 2007)
Sgt. Gene Lamie, 25, passed away from injuries sustained in Taji, Iraq on July 6, 2007. Sgt. Lamie served with the 3rd Batt., 7th Cav Reg., of the 2ndBrigade Combat Team. Gene attended school in Charlton County from 1994-1998. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Nascar. He was preceded in death by his grandfather: Bud Taylor.
He is survived by his wife: Dara Jean Lamie; a son: Gene Benjamin; and a daughter: Lyrean; Parents: Eugene and Linda Lamie of Homerville, GA; Grandparents: Gene & Elsie Lamie of Homerville, GA and Della Taylor of Folkston, GA; Sister: Christy M. Bell of Douglas, GA and a Brother: John D. Lamie of Homerville, GA; 2- nieces: Kelsie Bell and Marrah Lamie
The Family will receive friends Friday July 13 at Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, GA from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday July 14 at 11:00 AM at the Shepard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alice Chancey officiating. Sgt Lamie will be laid to rest Wednesday July 18 at 10:00 AM at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC with full military honors.
